Project title:
Computational network model development and application for industrial relevant mammalian cell lines

Host organization: BAYER
Supervisors: Prof. Andreas Schuppert (RWTH), Dr. Swantje Behnken (BAYER)
Duration: 36 months

Objectives:

  • To establish computational genome-based network models for cell lines to allow reduction of experimental screening effort.
  • To generate new insights into the underlying biological mechanisms of industrial relevant bioprocesses, and to approach an understanding of cell behavior in relation to process parameters.
  • Validation of the predictive kinetic network model-based optimization by e.g. omics data generated from mammalian production and lab-scale fermentation processes to allow perturbation experiments.

Expected results: Established kinetic genome-based network models for industrial relevant mammalian cell lines that provide omics data integration, enable model simulation, and can be employed for predicting, e.g. specific productivity, dynamic yield changes in distinct process phases, maintenance requirements, or supplementation strategies.

Planned secondments:

  • IMPERIAL, M10, 1 month, modeling of dynamic systems of cell population
  • RWTH, M18, 3 months, parameter estimation / model identification
